Where are the women entrepreneurs, angels and venture capitalists?

Women remain under-represented in science and business including in the creation and operation of spin-off companies from public research institutions. Whilst a recent study lead by Cassidy Sugimoto at Indiana University reported that women in academia globally are patenting at a higher rate compared to those in industry or as individuals from USPTO filings analysed between 1976 and 20131, this has not fed through to significant increases in the numbers of women founding spin-out companies from Universities. A study of spin-outs created by UK universities published in July 2015 by the Enterprise Research Centre found that just 8.3% of University spin-outs included a woman as a member of the founding team2. Over the last few years, several US universities initiated programmes...

PROGRESS-TT: Assessing the Performance of TTOs

PROGRESS-TT is developing a tool to assess Technology Transfer Offices [1] (TTOs) performance and potential for increased successes. The “TT Diagnostic” tool will be used by the project to help select applicants wishing to receive capacity building support from PROGRESS-TT. Based on their performance assessment, selected TTO will be proposed a tailor-made programme for capacity building based on PROGRESS-TT’s body of knowledge. SSHA group highlights four main valorization issues during Leiden meeting

The SSHA valorization group met at the ASTP-Proton headquarters in Leiden, The Netherlands on 30 September to outline main issues commonly faced in valorization. These concerns will form part of the "SSHA valorization manual" being drafted. Initiated by ASTP-Proton member Christoph Köller, the special interest group on Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts (SSHA) valorization acts as a knowledge sharing platform developing tangible results to share with all ASTP-Proton members. "This 'for and with members' initiative is completely in line with the ASTP-Proton objective of promoting and facilitating a larger involvement of ASTP-Proton members", Board Member Marta Catarino stated during the meeting. Moderated by the initiators of the...
